Excellence.  Dedication.  Commitment.

Our program's primary mission is to prepare family physicians for practice in urban underserved communities. Our principal training site, San Francisco General Hospital, is a nationally recognized, a publicly funded county hospital serving a diverse population. Through their clinical experiences on inpatient rotations and in the Family Health Center, family medicine residents develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for working effectively with patients and families of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Residents benefit from providing greatly needed health care and from the pride and inspiration that their service engenders.

A successful candidate for our residency program demonstrates:

  • Excellence in clinical and academic skills
  • Dedication to Family Medicine
  • Commitment to working with underserved communities
